Cal Lutheran Puts One Over on Occidental, 3-2

Ryan Girod scored on a pass from Brian Collins five minutes into overtime Saturday to give Cal Lutheran a 3-2 victory over Occidental in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer match at Occidental.

Dharma Clement scored two minutes into the match for Cal Lutheran (8-2-1, 3-0 in conference play) and Collins scored 15 minutes later to give the Kingsmen the lead, 2-1.

However, Occidental (2-6, 1-1) tied the match in the 37th minute.

The Master’s 4, Christian Heritage 0--Bryan Lee scored twice and Lucas Principe once to give the Mustangs (7-7) a 3-0 halftime lead in a nonconference game over Christian Heritage (5-5-1) at The Master’s.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 2, Occidental 0--Kim Holeman scored two second-half goals in nine minutes to lift the Regals (8-3, 6-0) in a SCIAC match at Occidental (2-10, 2-5).

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Harvard-Westlake 5, Orinda Miramonte 2--Peter Hudnut and Phillip Spataru each scored two goals for the Wolverines (13-1), against Northern California’s No. 1 team in the fifth place game of the Southern California Invitational at Irvine High.

Earlier, Hudnut and Spataru each scored three goals in a 9-8 victory over San Clemente, ranked second in the Southern Section Division I.

Royal 15, Marina 14--Jason Perry scored six goals and David Radka added four for the Highlanders (14-3) in a nonleague match at Golden West College.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Fountain Valley Invitational--Quartz Hill senior Danielle Day recorded the fastest time, 18:03 over three miles, and the Rebels took the team title in the Division II race at Central Park.

Day was followed to the finish line by teammate Carly Harrill in 18:39. Thousand Oaks freshman Kelly Hess was third at 18:52 with Quartz Hill freshman Shell Blevins fourth in 18:56.

Quartz Hill had 38 points, with Thousand Oaks second at 68.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Fountain Valley Invitational--Sophomore Seth Neumuller was sixth and junior Dan Kilgore finished seventh with identical 16:31 clockings on the three-mile course at Central Park to help Thousand Oaks to the team championship in Division II.

The Lancers placed five runners in the top 20 to finish with 59 points, with Norwalk second at 90.

Luke McCarthy of Westlake was fourth in 16:25 and the Warriors finished fourth with 165 points.
