Thurmond Taken to Hospital for Dizziness
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Sen. Strom Thurmond, 94, was admitted to a Washington hospital for observation after becoming dehydrated and dizzy while attending the sun-baked Promise Keepers rally, U.S. Capitol Police said. Police spokesman Sgt. Dan Nichols said Thurmond (R-S.C.) was at the stage when he complained of being dizzy about 2 p.m. He was taken to a first-aid tent and was administered a cold compress and fluids before being taken to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Nichols said Thurmond never lost consciousness and required no further treatment.
