At a funeral attended by more than 700 people Monday, Darryl “Chubby” Hood, a Watts resident shot to death in the Jordan Downs housing project by Los Angeles police officers, was eulogized as “a loving family man and father.”
Hood, 40, was killed Nov. 15 by officers responding to a suicide call. Hood, who was stabbing himself in the head when police arrived, refused orders to drop two knives and was shot. The killing has outraged much of Watts.
Community leaders plan to stage a protest march at the district attorney’s office and make a plea to U.S. Atty. Gen. Janet Reno to investigate the two officers for violating Hood’s civil rights.
“We are not going to let his pass,” said one mourner.
