May Leads 49ers Past Cal State Fullerton

Misty May had 24 assists and 11 digs as Long Beach State defeated Cal State Fullerton, 15-3, 15-3, 15-3, to remain unbeaten in Big West Conference play with their 16th win of the season in a women’s volleyball match Saturday night at Fullerton.
Nique Crump had 11 kills and Benishe Dillard had nine kills for the top-ranked 49ers.
The Titans drop to 12-18, 4-12 in conference.
In another Big West Conference match:
Pacific 3, UC Irvine 0--Danielle Shin had 15 kills in a victory for 19th-ranked Pacific, 15-4, 15-6, 15-4. Tanja Dimitrijevic had 28 assists for the Tigers (19-7, 12-4).
Teri Zartman had 19 assists and six digs for UC Irvine (7-22, 2-14).
In The Master’s men’s basketball classic:
Southern California College 79, Northwest (Wash.) College 61--Guard Dennis Keane scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds for SCC (1-1) in its victory over Northwest in a consolation game.
In men’s cross-country:
CS Fullerton finishes 12th--Francisco Vazquez finished 65th in 33 minutes 12 seconds as the Titans took 12th at the Western Regional Cross-Country Championships at the Dell Urich Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz.
UC Irvine’s Doug Frichtel finished 78th in 33:37. The Anteaters finished 17th.
UCLA’s Nebrahtom Keflezighi won the race in 30:15 over 10 kilometers.
Stanford won the team championship.
In women’s cross-country:
UC Irvine finishes 13th--UC Irvine’s Jamie Blair finished 44th with a time of 18:53 over 5,000 meters at the Western Regional Cross-Country Championships in Tucson, Ariz. The Anteaters finished 13th.
Stanford was the overall champion.
Cal State Fullerton’s Sarah MacDougall finished 51st in 19:02. Arizona’s Amy Skieresz won in 16:59.
The Titans finished 17th.
At the Rolex ITA Southern California women’s tennis regional:
UCLA’s Basica advances--Top-seeded Amanda Basica of UCLA defeated Arizona’s Besty Miringoff, 7-5, 6-1, to advance to the semifinals of the Southern California Women’s Tennis Regional at UC Irvine. Basica will play Arizona’s Vicky Maes, a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Elizabeth Schmidt of UCLA.
