Chamber Loses 2nd Key Official
In the second major resignation within a week, Peter Erdos, marketing director of the Greater Oxnard Chamber of Commerce, has quit.
Erdos will become assistant general manager for the Oxnard-based Pacific Suns minor league baseball team.
He said better pay from the team, which hopes to take advantage of Erdos’ close ties with the local business community, persuaded him to change positions.
“Things were going well here. I enjoyed it,†said Erdos, who worked at the chamber for about a year. “But this seemed a little more lucrative.â€
Erdos’ resignation follows the departure of Executive Director Douglas A. Yavanian, who announced last week that he was leaving because the job keeps him far away from his family in Riverside County.
Greg Ramirez, the chamber’s president-elect, said Wednesday that Erdos’ move to the Suns had surprised him.
“I was informed it was personal reasons,†Ramirez said. “It’s news to me.â€
Ramirez called the loss of Erdos and Yavanian a blow to the chamber and said replacements for both are being sought.
“I have to honestly tell you, I’m very sorry to see both of them leave,†Ramirez said. “Both of them were big assets.â€
