Edward Crane Truman, 82, composer and pianist for major radio and television programs. A native of Des Moines, Truman studied at Drake University, UCLA, Immaculate Heart College and later obtained a master’s in psychology at the University of Redlands. A radio pioneer, he began working for Coles Broadcasting in Des Moines, then moved to Armed Forces Radio, Don Lee Mutual Radio and ABC Television in Hollywood. He became music director and composer for television series for NBC Television and worked for such programs as “Ellery Queen” and “The Untouchables.” Truman served on the board and earned the Golden Circle Diamond award of Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters. As a philanthropist, he endowed religious studies programs at UC Santa Barbara and Drake University. On Nov. 1 in Los Angeles of an aneurysm.
