A weekly look at the college progress of former Orange County prep athletes.
BIOLA SOCCER
* County connection: Scott Cutshall of Servite and Troy Wegner of San Clemente High are on Biola’s men’s soccer team. Sally Moffett of Calvary Chapel is on the women’s soccer team.
* Worth noting: Wegner has two goals and three assists for Biola (10-10-0). Moffett has seven goals and three assists for the women’s team (12-7-1).
BIOLA VOLLEYBALL
* County connection: Sara Roberts of Calvary Chapel and Michele Wineke of Golden West College.
* Worth noting: Roberts leads Biola (24-4) in kills and digs. Wineke leads in aces.
LOYOLA MARYMOUNT WOMEN’S SOCCER
* County connection: There are seven local players on the Lions’ team. Tracy Sharp and Heather Nelson are from Esperanza, Stacy Roberts from Laguna Hills, Kim Buccola and Trisha Abe from Mater Dei, Michelle Woiemberghe from Cypress and Jessica Lyon from Marina.
* Worth noting: Loyola finished the season 11-8, the best record in the program’s history. Loyola is coached by former Chapman coach Gregg Murphy.
WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY VOLLEYBALL
* County connection: Melinda Doomey is from Irvine.
* Worth noting: Doomey is a freshman middle blocker for Washington University, located in St. Louis and ranked second in the nation in Division III. Washington (32-6) has won the last six Division III titles.
