Playing in Pain, Young Gets Goals

Duck right wing Scott Young has a simple explanation why he scored three goals in the last two games before Monday: His right wrist stopped hurting so much.
“It’s still not 100%, but it’s felt a lot better the last few games,” said Young, suffering from tendinitis since Oct. 23. “It was real weak for a while. I’m starting to see some progress with the treatments.”
Young had a cortisone shot, but that did not ease the pain and he was concerned that shooting the puck would cause him more harm than good.
He went five games nursing the injury, trying his best not to make it worse but going without a goal. But he broke the drought with two goals Friday.
They had combined for only four goals and 13 points going into Monday, but Warren Rychel, Mark Janssens and Ted Drury might be the Ducks’ most effective line so far.
They grind, they fight, they play tight defense on the opponents’ top lines. And Janssens and Drury are two of the Ducks’ best penalty-killers.
But the line just can’t seem to put the puck in the net.
“I know we’re not showing up on the score sheet very often, but we’re keeping things simple,” Rychel said. “We’re all pretty hard workers.”
