Proposal Would Ban All Pushcart Vendors
The city is proposing to forever silence the familiar bells sounded by pushcart operators selling everything from ice cream to hot dogs.
An ordinance will be proposed at the City Council’s Nov. 18 meeting to ban all non-motorized vendors from public areas, including streets, parkways, sidewalks and alleys.
The request results from efforts of the city’s Neighborhood Preservation Program. Among the concerns cited are safety risks to motorists, health risks to customers, noise issues resulting from devices used to attract customers, and trespassing on private property.
