Granada Hills Seeded No. 2 for City Tennis Playoffs

Granada Hills High is seeded second for the City Section 4-A girls’ tennis playoffs that begin next Friday at the Studio City Racquet Center.
The Highlanders, who have gone undefeated in the regular season the past two years, will play seventh-seeded University.
Van Nuys is seeded fourth and will play Taft in a first-round match. El Camino Real is seeded sixth and Grant eighth.
BASKETBALL
New coach: Sam McGrath, an assistant and junior varsity basketball coach at Cleveland High the past three years, has taken over as head coach at Vasquez.
McGrath is the third coach in the three-year history of Vasquez. He replaces Chad Cieslick, who guided the team to a 6-14 record last season.
The Mustangs moved from the Alpha League to the Desert Mountain League. Next season they replace Paraclete in the Hi Desert League. Paraclete will join the Alpha League.
HONORS
Top Matadors: Soccer player Federico Arroyo and tennis player Isabella Peintner were named Matador student athletes of the month for October by a vote of the Cal State Northridge Student-Athletic Congress.
Arroyo is a sophomore forward from Van Nuys who had five goals and one assist as his team compiled a 2-2-1 record during October, including game-winners in matches against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Oct. 5 in overtime and against Cal State Fullerton on Oct. 19.
Peintner is a sophomore transfer from Munich who carries a 7-1 overall record and won the singles and doubles titles at the Cal State Fullerton Intercollegiate Championships.
Bryan honored: Former Rio Mesa High tennis standout Bob Bryan of Stanford won NCAA Division I national player of the month honors for October. He shared the honor with Mirela Vladulescu of the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
BASEBALL
Ravens win: The Conejo Valley Ravens defeated the La Grange Cards, 13-7, on Wednesday to finish pool play with a 5-1 record in the Men’s Senior Baseball League World Series in Phoenix.
WATER POLO
Alumni match: The Royal High alumni water polo game will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Rancho Simi Community Pool. Information: (805) 520-6875.
