Cal State Extension to Open in Garden Grove
After more than two years of negotiations, Cal State Fullerton will open an extended education campus in the Garden Grove Education Center, launching what the university expects to be an aggressive countywide expansion program.
The Garden Grove campus is designed to offer continuing education students a cross-section of courses in the school’s main and satellite facilities, said Harry Norman, dean of extension education.
Technology and interactive television courses are expected to be a focus of the campus, he added.
Cal State’s first classes at the city-owned center, at Garden Grove Boulevard and Euclid Street, will be in February. The school will occupy as much as 12,000 square feet in the newly opened education center, taking all of the first floor and most of the second, city officials said.
Under terms of the agreement approved Monday, the university will lease the space for at least 10 years, paying $90,000 in the first year. The city redevelopment agency is subsidizing about one-third the cost of the building lease.
Coastline Community College was the education center’s first tenant, occupying 28,000 square feet of office and classroom space. A selected number of the college’s classes have been in session there since April.
