City Backs Senate Bill on Handguns
A bill that would ban the manufacture of cheap handguns in the state has received the endorsement of Ventura officials, even though the city already supports the measure via its membership in the League of California Cities.
The league, an association of California municipalities, has given its blessing to the pending state Senate bill that would crack down on the makers of so-called Saturday night specials. The guns have become closely identified as the weapon of choice for violent criminals.
“It just reaffirms we believe in the league’s position,†Councilwoman Rosa Lee Measures said before the unanimous vote.
Other Ventura County cities have endorsed the bill as well, including Oxnard and Santa Paula.
