Civil War Buffs Shift Site of Reenactment to Exclude Woman
JACKSONPORT, Ark. — Rather than share the battlefield with a woman, men in a Civil War reenactment group have moved their annual show from a state park to private property.
A newsletter from the 7th Arkansas Infantry Volunteers said members voted to cancel their Jacksonport State Park show after learning that Patty Lediner planned to participate uninvited.
“Gentlemen of the 7th, this cannot be allowed to happen!†wrote Gary Roberts in the group’s newsletter. “We cannot allow this ‘male wannabe’ to push, shove and bully her way, uninvited, into our event!†The event is now scheduled for October on private land.
