BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan — Ten members of an amateur soccer club were killed and 12 others were seriously hurt in a weekend bus crash, a Kyrgyz official said Monday.
“Ten people were killed in the accident,” Kanat Urmanbetov, a spokesman for the remote Central Asian state’s Emergencies Ministry, said after the crash late Saturday.
Urmanbetov said the driver of the bus, which was carrying the Tepe-Kurgansky soccer club from southern Kyrgyzstan, lost control of the vehicle and it overturned on a mountainous road near the southern border with Tajikistan.
He said some of those hurt had been taken to a hospital in the southern village of Gulcha with serious head injuries.
