Leaf Blower Ban Revisions
“Council Lightens Penalties on the Use of Leaf Blowers†(Dec. 18) tries to make the L.A. City Council look like they are doing something good for the little people, but in reality they are making matters worse. Council member Cindy Miscikowski claims that as a result of this softening, the punishment now fits the crime. The real truth is the council has voted to create “crime†where none existed before.
Apparently the council believes we have an endless stream of officers to watch over the gardeners to determine whether they are using leaf blowers. We need our officers’ watchful eyes on real crime in our neighborhoods. We don’t need to add to the burden our police face daily with ridiculous laws like this one.
This law was put on the books as a retirement gift to an outgoing councilman. The council should wake up to see what Los Angeles really needs and stop wasting time and money on such silliness. They should blow this ordinance into the wastebasket where it belongs.
