Veronica Geng; Wrote Parodies in New Yorker

Veronica Geng, 56, whose sharp parodies in the New Yorker poked fun at politics and everyday banalities. After attending the University of Pennsylvania, Geng wrote a parody of film critic Pauline Kael in the mid-1970s that was published in the New York Review of Books. An editor at the New Yorker noticed the piece and hired Geng as an assistant. She was the author of short articles in the New Yorker called “casuals.� In 1992, after Tina Brown became editor, Geng left the magazine. She said she had been dismissed; Brown said she had resigned.
