Mock Funerals Slated at Sobriety Checkpoint

Residents will have a visual message for motorists at a Santa Ana sobriety checkpoint Friday--drinking and driving can kill.
Working with a local, nonprofit agency, Willard Concerned Residents will stage a mock funeral at a Santa Ana Police DUI checkpoint near Bristol and Wilshire streets. Youths will take turns lying in a coffin while about 10 friends and parents mourn the staged death.
Willard Concerned Residents in Santa Ana work to fight alcohol, tobacco and drug problems in their community. They are teaming up with Communities in Prevention, Central, which is funded by the county’s health care agency to address those same issues.
The mock funeral will be staged only from 8 to 10 p.m., although the checkpoint will last until 2 a.m., said Communities in Prevention specialist Helen Syn.
