If you haven’t yet checked out Curtis Hanson’s neo-noir “L.A. Confidential,” which has been named the best film of 1997 by no less than three major critics groups--the National Board of Review, New York Film Critics and L.A. Film Critics--go now while everyone else is queuing up for the big holiday releases. The film, based on James Ellroy’s novel about L.A. cops in the ‘50s, boasts a top-notch ensemble cast, including Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito and David Strathairn.
