Herrmann Is Selected Top Water Polo Player

Player-of-the-year Alan Herrmann was one of four players from national champion Pepperdine to be selected All-American by U.S. Water Polo.

Herrmann, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound senior two-meter man, was joined on the seven-player first team by teammates Jeremy Pope, Jack Kocur and goalie Merrill Moses. Rounding out the team were Brent Albright of California, Brian Heifferon of Stanford and Simun Cimerman of USC.

Terry Schroeder, who guided the Waves to their first NCAA championship, was chosen coach of the year.

COMMITMENTS

Going places: Three Harvard-Westlake High water polo players have made their college choices. Mike Crosby will attend Harvard, Stephanie Dashiell has chosen Princeton and Jenny Bruno will attend Yale and play softball.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Vacancy: Cal Linam, the boys’ and girls’ cross-country coach at Burbank High since 1990, has resigned and will become an assistant track coach at Canyon High in February.

Linam, 35, said he made the move because his family is trying to buy a house in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Double play: Sessions of the Cal Lu Dawgs’ Winter Baseball Camp are scheduled for Monday through Wednesday and Dec. 29-31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cal Lutheran.

The camp, operated by the Cal Lutheran baseball staff, is for youngsters ages 6 through 16.
