Vivian Schectman Martell; Film Executive, Real Estate Broker
Vivian Schectman Martell, 78, film executive, real estate businesswoman and collector of rare books. She was a sergeant in Army intelligence during World War II and afterward worked for United Artists Motion Picture Co. in New York, where she was in charge of literary and film residuals and accounting. Moving to California with her husband, Gregg Martell, in 1962, she switched careers and with him became a commercial real estate broker. She was active with the Friends of the Downey City Library, lending expertise she gained in building her own rare book collection. On Dec. 3 in Downey of pancreatic cancer.
