Council Delays Vote on Storage Facility

A decision to allow a self-storage facility to be built in the hills area was postponed by the City Council this week in order to get more details on the project.

The business, proposed on a 3-acre vacant site at 7777 E. Santa Ana Canyon Road, would be next to homes.

Mayor Tom Daly said since the project is within a residential area, “we owe it to the neighbors to be extra careful†in approving the plans.

The council postponed the matter until Jan. 13 and directed city planning staff to get more details on proposed signs, roof design and materials and landscaping.

No residents spoke either in favor or in opposition of the development.

Under the proposal, the council would have to amend the city’s General Plan to allow a commercial use in a residential area.

The developer, Craig Clausen, also plans to place trees to screen the project from nearby homes.
