Day of Silence Scheduled Today

As a break from the holiday hustle, Meditation Mount is offering a Day of Silence from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

Throughout the day there will be organized activities with a silent walk, sharing in small and larger groups, a noon mantra and a closing meditation and blessing of the world.

Event planners say people are welcome to go off on their own and enjoy the view of the Ojai Valley from the garden area of Meditation Mount.

“It’s a way to attain a little bit of serenity and quiet during this really busy season,� said Paula Castillo, administrative coordinator.

This year’s Day of Silence is being held in conjunction with the winter solstice, when the sun starts its move northward.

Many ancient religions and mystery schools recognize the winter solstice as a time of rebirth and renewal, Castillo said.

Meditation Mount, situated on 30 acres overlooking the Ojai Valley, is on the east end of Ojai at the top of Reeves Road.
