Postal Service Extends Its Hours Today, Sunday

To accommodate last-minute holiday mail, the Postal Service will have extended hours today at branches throughout the city and will open nine branches Sunday.

An average of 1.3 million items are mailed daily in Los Angeles between Thanksgiving and Dec. 22. The Postal Service has hired 1,500 seasonal workers to handle the crunch, said spokesman Larry Dozier.

Branches with extended hours today:

* Northeast: Eagle Rock (8 a.m.-4 p.m.), Los Feliz (7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.), Hollywood (8 a.m.-3 p.m.), Griffith (8 a.m.-2 p.m.), Eagle Rock Plaza (10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.)

* Westside: Bicentennial (8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.), West Los Angeles Finance (8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.), Palms (8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.), Sunset (8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.), Barrington (7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.), Rancho Park (8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.), Mar Vista (8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.), West Branch (7:30 a.m.-2 p.m.), Preuss (8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.), Cole Finance (8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.), Westside Pavilion (11 a.m.-5:30 p.m.)
