Vandalized School Given Money and 18 Computers
Students at the recently vandalized Rowan Avenue Elementary School received an infusion of holiday spirit Friday when corporate donors and neighbors gave the school 18 computers and money for supplies.
The East Los Angeles school sustained more than $32,000 in losses from damaged school supplies during a ransacking by youths earlier this month, school district spokesman Erik Nasarenko said.
In response, representatives of AirTouch Cellular and Sprint donated 18 Apple computers and nearly $12,000 for school supplies. “What was amazing about this was that you have the big hitters like AirTouch giving $5,000 and people from East L.A. and places like Newport Beach chipping in with $20,†Nasarenko said.
