State Settles With Nu-Concepts and Jetaway
The state attorney general’s office said Friday that it reached a settlement with Nu-Concepts in Travel Inc. of Irvine and its Jetaway Travel Corp. subsidiary, which it accused earlier this year of being “an endless chain scheme.†Under the agreement, Nu-Concepts and Jetaway agreed to abide by state laws governing the sale of travel and multilevel marketing plans, to make refunds to customers who sought them and to pay commissions to associates who earned them. Attorney general spokeswoman Sara Brown said the state does not know how many consumers could be affected under the settlement, nor how much the companies stand to pay out in refunds or commissions. Nu-Concepts is one of the larger multilevel marketing networks that sell travel kits and promise training to buyers who want to become at-home travel agents. In its suit, the state claimed that the company was an illegal scheme designed mostly to sell business opportunities rather than travel tickets and accommodations. An attorney for Nu-Concepts didn’t return phone calls, and company officials couldn’t be reached for comment.
