PORTLAND (6-2) at UC IRVINE (1-5), 7, KUCI-FM--Irvine has a sizable problem. Andrew Carlson, a 6-foot-10 center, is sidelined four to six weeks because of a broken right hand. Matt Willard, a 6-9 forward, is recovering from mononucleosis. Wendell Robinson, a 6-8 center, is waiting for his grades to be posted. Irvine has no other player taller than 6-7. Portland, which has four returning starters, is led by guard Jason Franklin, who is averaging 14.9 points.
