Newly Named ARV President Will Not Take Post

COSTA MESA — ARV Assisted Living Inc. said Lawrence Murphy, its newly named president and chief operating officer, has decided not to join the company, citing family and health reasons.
ARV Assisted said co-founder John A. Booty will continue as interim president, and Murphy will remain with Marriott International Inc. Murphy’s appointment was announced last week.
ARV is attempting to fend off a hostile takeover bid by Seattle-based Emeritus Corp.
