Can it be we are returning to the bleak time of Charles Dickens? Reading the accounts of inadequate medical care in California for poor kids is enough to make you depressed (Dec. 7-8).
I always thought we were the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world--are we also the stingiest and most thoughtless?
