Ex-Preacher Guilty in Attempted ‘Hit’
A jury in Sanford found a former televangelist guilty of trying to hire a hit man to kill his arch-rival, whose estranged wife he was having an affair with. But the Rev. George Crossley was exonerated on an arson charge. He was accused of hiring a federal undercover agent to “do something about” the Rev. George “Butch” Waldo, Crossley’s rival. Crossley, 56, admitted to having an affair with Waldo’s estranged wife, Madeline. Prosecutors say Waldo retaliated by harassing Crossley by calling him at home and calling the central Florida stations where he worked to tell them about the affair. Sentencing has been set for Feb. 2.
