Ocean View took control early and finished strong in a 66-40 first-round victory over Santa Barbara in the Tournament of Champions Tuesday at Ocean View.

The second-ranked Seahawks (1-0) outscored Santa Barbara, 24-9, in the first quarter and, 20-8, in the fourth. Matt Kiemle had 18 points and seven rebounds and Jason Martini added 15 points for Ocean View.

The Seahawks advance to play Pasadena in the second round at 8:30 tonight.

In the Century Shootout boys’ basketball tournament:

No. 7 University 103, La Mirada 76--Eric Palmer scored 30 points for University (2-0), which took a 47-25 halftime lead. Justin Hunt added 19 points for the Trojans.

In the Costa Mesa Jason Ferguson boys’ basketball tournament:

Mission Viejo 70, Costa Mesa 49-Jerry Bolton scored a game-high 25 points and Joey Reid added 18 for Mission Viejo (2-4).

In the La Quinta Classic boys’ basketball tournament:

Calvary Chapel 60, Laguna Beach 39--Brett Young scored 25 points and Joe Ortiz had 11 for Calvary Chapel. Nick Reynolds scored 14 points for Laguna Beach, which was limited to one point in the third quarter.

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

No. 4 Tustin 65, Kennedy 57--Peter Johnston scored 16 points and Kenny Crab had 12 for the Tillers (3-0).

Villa Park 67, Orange Lutheran 53--Alan Verzani scored 13 points in the second quarter and 10 in the third as Villa Park took a 17-point lead. Verzani finished with 27 points, 18 rebounds and six blocks for the Spartans (3-2).

In the Brea Olinda Ladycat tournament:

Torrance Bishop Montgomery 52, Mission Viejo 36--Tamara Quin led Bishop Montgomery with 13 points and Janae Zahn added 12. Geneva Kelly scored a game-high 14 points for Mission Viejo, including two three-pointers.

In the Estancia girls’ basketball tournament:

Huntington Beach 43, Estancia 27--Courtney McKinney led Huntington Beach (2-1) with 13 points and Megan Masuda added 12.

In the Santa Ana Valley girls’ basketball tournament:

Rosary 58, Brethren Christian 46--Sarah Belavic had 16 points and 10 assists for Rosary (5-0) in a first-round game.

In the South Coast girls’ basketball tournament:

No. 4 Capistrano Valley 51, Ocean View 34--Monique Mathews scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to advance Capistrano Valley (3-0) to Friday’s semifinal against Villa Park.

Santa Margarita 52, San Diego Bishops 51--Vanessa Ferragamo led the Eagles (2-2) with 17 points and Molly Malone scored 12. Kate Toman and Colleen O’Leary also contributed nine points, and Toman finished with a team-high nine rebounds.

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

La Habra 49, Western 46--Morgan Morris made two free throws in the final seconds of the game to seal the victory for La Habra (3-2). Morris finished with seven points. Rochelle Suesoff and Desiree Alcaraz led the Highlanders with 12 points each. Diana Fukushima added 10 points.

No. 2 San Clemente 70, Woodbridge 32--Colleen Turnbull led San Clemente (2-3) with 14 points and eight rebounds, and Taryn Commins added 10 points and six assists.
