Eagles Open Their Season With Shutout
Tim Pierce and Dan Brennan scored and goalkeeper Byron Foss posted a shutout to lead Santa Margarita to a season-opening victory over Fountain Valley, 2-0, Monday at Santa Margarita High.
Fountain Valley is 2-2.

Bolsa Grande 2, Brethren Christian 1--Ceasar Yepez broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second half for host Bolsa Grande (1-2).
Edison 3, Christchurch (New Zealand) 2--Devin Kato scored two goals for host Edison (3-0).
El Modena 3, Sunny Hills 3--El Modena’s Sergio Viera made six saves, including two on penalty kicks, to help preserve the tie for the host Vanguards (1-0-2).
Mater Dei 4, El Toro 2--Bret Corbin had two goals and an assist for visiting Mater Dei (1-0-1).
Ocean View 1, Katella 0--Dana Bryan scored in the first half for Ocean View (1-1), in a game shortened by lightning.
University 1, Trabuco Hills 0--Tomasso Bencivenga scored in the 49th minute for visiting University (1-2-1).
