Man in Hospital After Dangling From Tree
A tree trimmer who lost his footing and became entangled in a safety chain for more than an hour remained in critical condition late Monday, officials said.
The 30-year-old man, whose name was not released, was 30 feet up in a palm tree in the 13200 block of Chestnut Street when he slipped, causing the chain to tighten around his chest and the tree trunk, fire officials said.
Rescue crews managed to get him down about 11:20 a.m., but the man was barely conscious and went into full cardiac arrest, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Scott Brown said.
“He was stuck up there for an hour and was having difficulty breathing the whole time,†Brown said. “When we got him on the ground, he was moaning and then he stopped breathing altogether.â€
The man was taken to Columbia Medical Center in Huntington Beach, where he was in critical condition, a spokeswoman said.
