FEELING BETTER NOW?
Kids aren’t crazy about hospitals--but volunteer Margie Cahn is out to change all that. As part of an outreach program called “Hospital Adventures,†sponsored by Daniel Freeman Marina Hospitals, Cahn tells elementary-school kids what to expect if they have to visit the hospital. Also, Cahn talks about career opportunities in the medical field--everything from surgeons to nurses to medical technicians. During a recent visit to Kelso Elementary School in Inglewood, Cahn showed the students a set of surgical instruments. At right, 9-year-old Michael Thompson uses a stethoscope to listen to the beat of his own heart. Hospital Adventures was launched in October 1995 by volunteers like Cahn who made presentations to youngsters in 142 classrooms in Westchester and Venice.
