TUSTIN — Cerplex Group Inc., an electronic repair services and spare parts supplier, posted a second-quarter loss of $9.4 million, or 30 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier profit of $702,000, or 5 cents a share. Revenue fell 23% to $39.3 million from $51.3 million.
The company said its second-quarter results included a $6.6-million gain from the sale of its Peripheral Computer Support Inc. subsidiary and charges of $4.3 million for restructuring expenses and $7.8 million for excess and obsolete inventory and other assets. Shrinking sales volume in some of the company’s North America repair and spare parts business also affected profit margins.
For the first half, Cerplex reported a loss of $14.4 million, or 60 cents a share, compared with a loss of $871,000, or 7 cents a share, for the first six months of 1996. Revenue fell 7% to $85.6 million from $92.2 million.
Cerplex also said Wednesday that the previously announced sale of its Modcomp/Cerplex L.P. subsidiary has been completed, resulting in a $6-million debt repayment that enabled the company to meet creditors’ requirements related to a planned debt refinancing.
