Both Fullerton teams have been troubled by injuries. Freshman forward Duncan Oughton from New Zealand had been impressive in early workouts with the men’s team, but he will be out two to six weeks after arthroscopic knee surgery. Barbie Gill, who led the women’s team in assists last season and scored six goals, had knee surgery Monday and will be sidelined indefinitely.

The Fullerton men advanced to the NCAA playoffs last year but were beaten in the second round. Two of the top scorers on the team, which finished 11-4-6, are back. Striker Sheldon Thomas was the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s player of the year last season, when he had 17 goals and five assists. Forward Charlie Lynch also returns after scoring 20 points on eight goals and four assists.
