Campaign Aims to Make Cars, Homes Smoke-Free

A countywide campaign for smoke-free cars and homes for children will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Children’s Museum downtown today by the Youth Tobacco Control Coalition.

“I think it is bad for the health of those who are smoking and worse for the people who are around them,” said Ivan Jimenez, 11, who is scheduled to speak at the museum. “Kids could breathe better if they did not have to breathe the smoke from smokers.”

Organizers will begin distributing 10,000 stickers asking for a smoke-free environment at today’s ceremonies.

“We need to remind the adult public again and again about the dangers of secondhand smoke,” said Sergio Gonzalez, the anti-smoking coalition’s project director. “People need to stop smoking for the sake of our children.”
