Stone-Cold Assessment
After reading Mary McNamara’s “Hold the Ice” (So SoCal, July 13), I no longer consider myself the only woman in the world who hates diamonds.
I love rings--they’re my favorite type of jewelry--but not the nasty little diamonds mounted on most of them. The people who make rings spoil the effect of a lovely ruby, emerald or sapphire by using those ugly diamond chips.
My engagement ring was an oval-cut carnelian from a local antique shop. We didn’t mention that it was for our engagement, because, back in 1970, it was even more unacceptable to dislike diamonds than it is now.
My compliments on McNamara’s good taste; we are surely kindred spirits.
