So the Paramount Gate is “sadly diminished,” according to Ed Leibowitz’s “60-Second Appraisal” (So SoCal, July 20). On the contrary, the landmark gate, first made famous by Gloria Swanson in the classic film “Sunset Boulevard,” is still a thing of wonder and awe, despite the massive changes to the immediate area brought about by the people who run the studio.
The gate could easily have been torn down, but, to the credit of the studio management, it still stands as a living monument to the glamour and glory of the studio life that no longer exists.
