JetHawks Fall in 10 to Ports, 6-5
The Lancaster JetHawks lost to the Stockton Ports, 6-5, in 10 innings Saturday night in a California League game in Stockton. A fielder’s choice by Antonio Fernandez with the bases loaded brought home the winning run.
The JetHawks took a 5-4 lead in the eighth when Shawn Buhner scored from third base on a two-out infield single by David Skeels.
Stockton tied the score in the ninth when Kelly Thair singled to left and the JetHawks’ Josh Watts overran the ball, allowing Fernandez to score from second base.

Gabe Kapler didn’t exactly trigger any alarms Friday night when he hit a home run for the Detroit Tigers’ Lakeland affiliate in a 6-5 victory over St. Lucie.
Kapler, a former outfielder at Taft High and Moorpark College, has established himself as one of the premier power hitters in the Class-A Florida State League. Entering Saturday’s play, Kapler was tied for fourth with 17 homers and ranked No. 1 with 36 doubles and 57 extra-base hits.
Former Reseda outfielder Will Skett is tied for second with 19 home runs and tied for fourth with a .504 slugging percentage despite a recent promotion from Dunedin of the Florida State League to double-A Knoxville in the Toronto Blue Jays’ system.

Jon Schaeffer, a catcher from Harvard-Westlake High and Stanford, has been promoted from the Class-A Elizabethton (Tenn.) Twins of the Appalachian League to the double-A New Britain (Conn.) Rock Cats of the Eastern League. Schaeffer batted .333 with 13 doubles, six home runs and 34 RBIs for Elizabethton. He also walked 33 times for an on-base percentage of .451.
