Aug. 23-24: Summer sale of dormant winter-flowering bulbs, including many rare South African kinds, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Irvine Arboretum, Campus Drive one block south of Jamboree Road, University of California, Irvine. $1.

Aug. 24: Begonia Show and Sale, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Blvd., Palos Verdes Peninsula, (310) 544-1948. Adults, $5; seniors and students, $3; children, $1.
