Hard Work Pays Off for Old Towne
Thank you so much for your editorial comments Aug. 3, “Old Towne Gets New Hope.”
Old Towne Orange is a very special place, and this has not been by chance. There are many groups and individuals dedicated not only to the preservation but also the success of Old Towne.
Leason Pomeroy heads a group of architects and illustrators called the Design Collaborative that developed a Downtown Vision Plan. Their efforts began over five years ago and they are now just on the brink of materializing.
Old Towne Preservation Assn. spent nearly four years in preparing and perfecting a nearly 500-page application for the National Register. The preparation of the application would have cost tens of thousands of dollars, but was accomplished through volunteer hours.
The Plaza Park has been on the National Register since 1978 and the Downtown Plaza Business District was placed on the National Register in 1992. The most recent application added approximately 1,300 residential properties to the National Register. Combined, Old Towne Orange is the largest historic district in California.
We are all very proud of Old Towne, but we are also proud of our community spirit that we all share in. We invite our neighbors to come visit us and a place in history.
JOAN CRAWFORD
President
Old Towne Preservation Assn.
