Trimedyne Inc.: The Irvine manufacturer of medical lasers said it lost $1.7 million, or 15 cents a share, in its fiscal 1997 third quarter, compared with a loss of $1.2 million, or 11 cents a share, for the corresponding period last year.

Revenue for the period ended June 30 declined 4% to $2.5 million from $2.6 million. The loss for the nine-month period was $4.5 million, or 41 cents a share, which included $880,000 of start-up and R&D; costs of its 90% owned subsidiary, Cardiodyne Inc., and a reserve of $200,000 for excess and obsolete inventory.

For the first three quarters of the prior year, a loss of $3 million, or 31 cents a share, was recorded. Revenue was down 7% to $6.4 million from $6.9 million. The results for the fiscal 1997 nine months include four months of the operations of Poly-Optical Products Inc., a 90% owned subsidiary that was sold Jan. 31.
