Oceanman Series Makes a Stop in Dana Point
The fourth of six stops of the World Oceanman Series will be Sunday to Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point.
The Oceanman Series features running, swimming, paddle board and ocean kayaking by men and women from an international field of beach lifeguards.
The lifeguards, chosen for their athletic and beach lifesaving skills, represent eight teams: United States, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Great Britain, Sweden, Europe and Japan.
Queensland, Australia, has dominated the contest in the last few years, but New Zealand, Great Britain and the United States are expected to challenge.
In the 2004 Olympics, competitive lifesaving will become an Olympic sport.
The women’s competition starts at noon and ends about 12:40 p.m. The men start at 1:15 and end at 2 p.m. A junior lifeguard display will take place at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free.
