Seattle Rains on Zodiac’s Playoff Hopes With Shutout
The Zodiac’s hopes of earning a playoff spot in the Pacific Division grew more faint after a 2-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders in A-League soccer game Friday in Seattle.
Seattle (17-7), which remains in first place in the division, scored in the first and second half in front of an announced crowd of 3,591 at Memorial Stadium in Seattle.
Midfielder Peter Hattrup scored first for Seattle on an assist from David Hoggan in the 14th minute.
Esmundo Rodriguez put the game away, scoring in the 48th minute on an assist by Kieran Barton.
Although the Zodiac offense has been potent in its last few games, it appeared to go flat Friday as players could not get a ball past goalkeeper Dusty Hudock, who leads the league in shutouts with 14, victories (16) and goals-against average.
Hudock recorded two saves. Marco Cerna had three saves for the Zodiac (9-14).
