Festival Parade Will Have a New Route
To match Simi Valley Days’ new location, the festival’s parade will follow a new route.
For the first time since 1985, the parade will take place on the eastern--rather than western--end of Los Angeles Avenue. For this year’s event, the parade staging area will be on Los Angeles Avenue between Sequoia Avenue and Sycamore Drive, and on Sequoia between Los Angeles and Royal avenues.
The Sept. 20 parade will proceed west on Los Angeles Avenue before turning north on Tapo Street, west on Valley Fair, north on Winifred Street and finally east on Eileen Street to the festival entrance.
The move coincides with the country-themed festival’s new digs on Tapo Street.
Simi Valley Days was originally slated to take place on First Street at the Ronald Reagan Freeway. Because that spot would not be graded in time for the Sept. 17-21 event, Simi Valley Days moved. The First Street site will be ready in time for the 1998 event, however.
The Simi Valley Police Department will be responsible for ensuring safety at the parade and monitoring traffic.
Applications are being accepted for parade participation and for the Country Western Music Festival. For information, call Mary Rhoads at (310) 834-3141 or (805) 522-8005.
