More Sign, Banner Inspectors Proposed
The city would more than double the number of sign inspectors under a proposal that will be considered Monday by the City Council.
Many city officials have complained of an increased number of illegal signs and banners on city thoroughfares, said Robyn Uptegraff, executive director of building and planning.
“It detracts from the image of the city,” she said.
The city department has two inspectors responsible for monitoring signs, Uptegraff said. That number could increase to five if the City Council is willing to reallocate resources.
Three inspectors could be moved from monitoring homes for storage, car and other violations, especially since such neighborhood problems seem to be on the decline, Uptegraff said.
“That’s the balance,” she said, adding that the inspectors could change their focus by September.
The council will meet at 6:15 p.m. at the Santiago Park Lawn Bowling Clubhouse, 510 E. Memory Lane. Information: (714) 647-6520.
