City Files Complaints Against Adult Nightclub

The city has filed misdemeanor complaints against the owner and manager of Scamps adult nightclub and three dancers who allegedly posed nude for photographs with patrons, Police Chief James Cook said Friday.

Cook said undercover police officers witnessed the alleged violations July 11, July 18 and Aug. 1.

Although Scamps, at 7000 Garden Grove Blvd., is licensed to operate as an adult cabaret, police said, nude dancers must be separated from the audience under the city’s municipal code. Touching or posing for photographs while nude violates that code, police said.

The charges carry a maximum fine of $1,000 and six months in county jail.

Owner James Leroy Massoli, through his attorney, Roger Diamond, said that the alleged violations are contrary to club policy. He said he believes the women were clothed while the photos were taken.

“Even if it were true, what a waste of money it is to prosecute this,” Diamond said. “To be cited for being nude in a nude theater--what a joke.”
