Trash Hauling Services Transferred Smoothly
Residents might not notice, but there’s a new trash hauler in town.
The city’s longtime refuse collector, Briggeman Disposal Inc., merged with Republic Industries Solid Waste Services Inc. last month in a smooth transition that city officials say will be “transparent” to customers.
The City Council approved the transfer of refuse franchise to Republic earlier this week after finding that the Delaware-based trash hauler met the city’s conditions of operation.
City officials required that Republic provide refuse collection in neighboring cities and that it have the capability and resources to provide quality service to Seal Beach.
“This merger will be transparent to residents of Seal Beach,” City Manager Keith Till said.
George Briggeman, owner of the old Los Alamitos trash hauling company, will be the city’s liaison with the new hauler.
The same trash trucks with the Briggeman name will continue to operate in the city.
Republic, which operates in 18 states, made the same arrangement in Placentia and Brea when it bought Taormina Industries earlier this year.
City officials in both those cities have said that they have not had a negative change in service since the merger and that they continue to work with the Taormina family.
