Schools Matter Most in Budget Debate
* I feel that your July 23 editorial “Let’s Have a Budget Debate on Matters That Matter Most” provides an accurate view of how most Californians feel.
True, most people like tax cuts, but in reality the main concern for parents, and even those without children, is education.
Overcrowded schools, limited supplies and uninspired administration should be the concerns when discussing money issues and the state budget.
As a recent student of the California education system, I see just how much reform is needed. If they do not want to concentrate on a full reform using this year’s budget, then at least start with a little increase in the education system’s funds.
I think they will be surprised at how much it will improve what we the citizens see as a long-term investment.
