District Uprooted Bird Habitat
* Casitas Municipal Water District trimmed 59 palm trees during the week of July 28-Aug. 1, resulting in the destruction of habitat for owls and many other birds.
Nests, broken eggs, dead and dying fledglings littered the ground beneath these trees, which hadn’t been trimmed since the 1984 Olympics.
Waiting another four months, until nesting season has ended, would have prevented this tragedy.
Lake Casitas attracts wildlife enthusiasts and educators from all across Ventura County, and it is unconscionable that the water district committed such an avoidable slaughter of wildlife.
